Flynn Parkers - Attention!

Image
From Ilene Gallop TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE FLYNN PARK GRADUATES!!!!!!!!!!! Along with our fun-filled U. City High School Reunion, Class of 1957, we are planning a FLYNN PARK REUNION on Saturday morning, September 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at our old school.  This WILL NOT conflict with any U. City Reunion plans.  We are going to have juice, coffee, doughnuts, etc. - not too much food since we don't want to talk with our mouths full - Mrs. Rossi wouldn't approve of that! Please let us know if you are planning to attend our Flynn Park get-together, how many, your complete name, address, phone number and email address and send to: Ilene Gallop Litvag, 655 Fairways Circle, Creve Coeur, MO  63141, 314-432-8378,  writerlit@aol.com                                                          OR Sandy Kornblet Rosen, 14308 Conway Meadows Ct., Chesterfield, MO  63017,  314-469-1674,   sandij116@aol.com . Best ribs in St. Louis?

Image
Click to enlarge Where's the best place for barbecued ribs in St. Louis? You know, St. Louis-style babyback ribs. Slow-cooked. With the sauce cooked in over several hours, not just sloshed on top before they hit your plate. The best place used to be the Philpott back yard at 550 Warder Avenue, right across the street from Ann Billmyer's and two doors down from Dorothy Gershenson, and a few more doors and across the street from Linda Lochhead. Next was Mac's BBQ on the Rock Road. Anyone remember Mac's? But it's years later, and times and places have changed. Now I'm talkin' finger-lickin' ribs. The roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-sauce-everywhere ribs. For my last birthday, I didn't want cake. I wanted Birthday Ribs! And I got them, too. Name your favorite BBQ joint in a comment below. Include the address or location. And your name, so you can be duly thanked!

Then and Now

Image
We are all appreciative (well, I know I am) of Buddy Cooper's tireless efforts to keep us informed of the goings-on of the Class of '57. I especially like his placement of photographs from our yearbook. Buddy's skills far exceed mine in this area. When I saw today's email with my pictures, I remembered a comment from my brother, Jim (UCHS '60), after he saw the first picture of me with a beard. I had returned from a raft trip through the Grand Canyon and had sent him one photo. That trip in 1981 was a 23-day white-water trip. There were 15 of us in three little rafts for 23 days. My beard  was really shaggy then. Jim wrote back that he always knew what he'd look like in three years by looking at a picture of me. But what he hadn't known was that the hair on top of his head was going to slide down over his chin! Have any of you other guys stopped shaving?

Planning Ahead for the 70th

Image
For those of you (you know who you are) who like to plan ahead, the 70th Reunion of the UCHS Class of '57 will be held in 2027. No need to make hotel reservations yet ... And hold off on airline reservations, too. The Committee for 2027 has not yet been announced, but they might work out a deal with Amazon for delivery of classmates by drones. Stay tuned... Now, if you think that's crazy, just check out this article from Time last year!

Welcome to (y)our new blog. In celebration of our coming 60th Anniversary (can you believe it?), this blog will be a central location for information, questions and answers. I'm working out the kinks right now for posting Reunion information and instructions for how you can post comments. In the Comment section below each article, you can make comments, seek to connect with classmates, gather reunion information such as dates, places, times, and ask your questions about where to eat, sleep and sightsee. When you see a comment with a question, you can provide an answer. It doesn't have to be the answer, just an answer. Whom can you blame for this? Gus Philpott (a/k/a Frank)
